NEW AND USED CARGO VANS: TYPES AND SCOPE OF APPLICATION
A delivery van is a type of land light cargo vehicles based on the chassis of conventional vans. According to the European standards, the total weight of such vehicles must not exceed 3.5 tons (whereas, in America, the maximum allowed weight exceeds the European requirements by 1 ton and amounts to 4.54 tons).
Transportations tasks associated with the need to transport small amounts of cargo arise extremely often. As a result, in this case, it is not sensible from the financial standpoint to freight a truck or (especially) a tractor unit with a semi-trailer. Moreover, one should take into account that many cities have certain restrictions on movement of cargo transport (with regard to the area and/or with regard to the time), which makes, for example, delivery of goods to retail stores much more complicated.
That is why delivery vans are widely used for cargo transportation, both within the boundaries of a city and on the suburban and intercity routes. Such delivery vans are, depending on the body type, capable of transporting almost any types of cargo (flowable, packed, bulk, requiring special storage conditions, and so on).
It should be noted that delivery vans can be equipped with different types of both open and closed bodies. They include, in particular, loading platforms, flatbed and tilt bodies, box bodies of discrete or one-piece construction, isothermal, refrigerator bodies and special bodies for ice-cream transportation, the principle of operation of which is based on the use of eutectic elements (cold accumulators).
