A crawler crane is a type of self-propelled building construction equipment designed for lifting and moving various cargoes.
In fact, when speaking of crawler cranes, one means jib-type cranes mounted on a tracked chassis. The scope of the main tasks of this equipment includes carrying out handling operations, lifting construction materials to a specific height, construction works, installing semi knocked-down modules of various equipment, etc. The maximum load capacity may be as high as 160 tonnes.
The construction of crawler cranes defines a range of advantages of this equipment. Presence of chassis provides significant mobility and ability to move quickly on the construction site (which is not among the advantages of the stationary counterparts), and because the chassis is tracked, this type of cranes considerably outdoes the rubber-wheeled counterparts in terms of off-road performance, which allows effectively carrying out operations in off-road conditions without any preparation of the working surface. Disadvantages include, perhaps, only their low speed and inability to move independently on the public road network (this is why transportation of crawler cranes is carried by tractor units with heavy duty low loader platforms, or with the use of rail and water transport).
