A tipper (a dumper) is a type of specialized open body of cargo vehicles equipped with automatic unloading system.

The body of the tipper is made of metal and usually this name refers to an open body of bunker type. Automatic unloading is most often enabled by inclination (tilting) of the body backward, or to either or both sides, with the help of a hydraulic system (some models provide for the unloading in all three directions).

Moreover, there are some specific types of tipper trucks which conduct the forced unloading in a different manner (for example, with the use of a screw or by tilting the whole vehicle with telescopic lifts).

Dippers are mainly used for transportation of dry and bulk cargo which do not require special conditions of transportation (sand, gravel, various rocks, bricks and so on). Due to its ability to quickly unload cargo, dipper trucks are widely used in municipal services, agriculture, mining and other sectors of industry, and, of course, in construction.

Road dipper trucks used to transport goods on general use roads have a body and a tipper system mounted on the frame of a standard truck. Special types of dippers include open-pit dipper trucks (off-road) , crawler-tracked dipper trucks, articulated haulers (swiveling) and underground dippers.
