Garbage truck is a type of special municipal/utility machinery designed for collection and removal of garbage, household waste and other types of waste.
Depending on the specific purpose, garbage trucks can significantly differ from the point of view of construction. Yet, is not too difficult to deduce a certain set of characteristics pertinent to most modern garbage trucks as such. They include a special type of body mounted on the cargo vehicle chassis (usually two- or three-axle). The main objective of this vehicle is to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in residential areas by collecting and transporting garbage and various types of waste to specially established landfills, waste processing and waste incineration plants.
The body volume of such vehicles usually ranges from 5 m3 to 20 m3, and the maximum mass of the loaded waste amounts to about 10,000 kg. Given the rather low specific weight of waste, the body of most garbage trucks is equipped with densifying mechanism (press) - depending on the model, the compression rate is between 2.5:1 and 6:1.
Loading of the garbage truck body can be performed manually or with the use of special cranes or other automatic systems, which capture, lift, and tilt the garbage bins. Moreover, different models of garbage trucks and automatic loading systems may conduct loading from the back, sides or front of the body. Unloading is usually performed in dumping manner (by tipping) and/or with the use of a pushing plate.
