Gas truck is a type of specialized truck body, a tank truck designed for safe transportation and storage of hydrocarbons and other gases.

Since the primary purpose of gas trucks is to transport both hydrocarbons (mainly, methane, propane, butane, as well as propane/butane mixes) and other gases (e.g., ammonia), the specific features of this cargo (just like in the case with, for example, fuel truck) causes increased requirements for fire safety and reliability of such tank truck. An additional factor is that liquefied gases and gas mixtures are pumped into the tank under pressure, which allows to achieve the required liquid state.

The tank capable of withstanding high pressure (proof-test pressure of many modern gas trucks is up to 26-27 Bar, working pressure is about 16-17 Bar) is usually manufactured with the use of solid stainless steel. Moreover, its volume can vary widely, from about 3.5 m3 to 26 m3. It is important to note that some gas trucks are also equipped with multisection tanks that can simultaneously carry different types of gases and mixtures .

Gas trucks have a variety of sensors (temperature, pressure, etc.), pumps and compressors as their indispensable equipment. Many tanks of gas trucks are equipped with special pumps, meters and fuel nozzles to allow for direct refueling of vehicles, household gas cylinders and other containers intended for this purpose.
