The gas tank is a type of tank designed for safe transportation and temporary storage of liquefied gases and their mixtures.

From the structural point of view, the gas tank is metal container with circular cross-section, which is mounted on the frame of two- or three-axle cargo trailer. The circular cross-section was chosen because this form is better at withstanding the pressure on the walls. It is worth reminding that the operating pressure of modern gas tanks is approximately 16-17 Bar (and the test pressure reaches 26-27 Bar). Taking into account this pressure and the explosive properties of the transported substances (usually - propane, butane, propane-butane mixtures, etc.), high-strength steel up to 10-12 mm thick is used for manufacture of these tanks.

The volume of such tanks is typically within the wide range from 20 m3 to 60 m3.

Among the inalienable equipment of the gas tanks, a system of sensors (for gas level, temperature, pressure) should be mentioned, which provide the driver with up-to-date information regarding the status of the cargo. Electrical equipment of these tanks usually has additional insulation preventing any possibility of sparkling, which enhances the compliance levels to fire safety requirements for such transport.
