The term rail profiling should be understood as mechanical treatment of rails consisting in the removal of a metal layer to a specific extent with the use of tools built on the machine in order to obtain the required cross-section and longitudinal cross-section of the rails, elimination of wavy deformations of the rolling surface and reduction of surface defects. Mechanical machining of rails is performed, among other things, by grinding, which covers the area of the rolling surface of the rail head within a specified range of the profiling angle (mechanical processing of rails).
