Refrigerated trucks

Refrigerator truck is a specialized truck intended for transportation of perishable goods whose preservation depends on sustaining stable temperatures.

The construction of the van of a refrigerator truck is basically identical to that of an isothermal truck. The hollow walls of the framed vans and the sandwich panels of the frameless ones are filled by the insulating material, and a special hermetic construction of the door allows effectively isolating the working volume from the environmental impacts. Unlike the common isothermal truck, refrigerator truck is capable not only of passively sustaining the temperature of the cargo put inside, but also of regulating the temperatures (on average, the working temperatures vary between +5°C and -32°C).

With this purpose, the refrigerator trucks are equipped with refrigerating machines, whose compressors, depending on the model and working volume of the van, may be either included in the system of the auto chassis (established on the engine or powered from the electric system), or have a separate combustion engine. Various freons are usually used as the coolant in such machines. As an alternative to standard refrigerating machines, some refrigerator trucks may use systems based on eutectic modules ('cold accumulators').
