GLASS TRANSPORT TRUCKS: MAIN FEATURES AND SELECTION CRITERIA
Glass transport truck is a special type of truck body for transportation of glass, double glass panes, mirrors and other flat products.
It is important to know that sheet glass (and other similar materials - such as mirrors) should be carried in the upright position - in this way, the likelihood of damage of this sensitive cargo is minimized. With this purpose, the body of glass transport trucks is equipped with a special device - a pyramid, which constitutes a frame structure designed to secure the glass in vertical or almost vertical position. The glass sheets are fixed on the pyramid with the use of pressure-exerting crossbars or pulling straps.
To avoid any unwanted mechanical impacts in the course of fixation and transportation, as well as scratches, scuffs and chips, it is strongly recommended to pack glass products beforehand and to use of special filling seals.
The body of glass transport trucks can be both open and closed. The second case provides additional cargo security, because the possibility of negative environmental impact is avoided. Moreover, the pyramid installed in such bodies may be of either of the two varieties - L-type stand (loaded from one side only) and A-type stand (the glass can be fixed on both sides). It should also be noted that in some cases the frames for fixing the glass can be placed on the outer side of a closed truck body.
Glass transport trucks may have cranes as additional equipment simplifying the loading and unloading operations.
