Auto transporter is a type of special truck body intended for transportation of passenger cars, motorcycles and other vehicles.

Depending on the specific model of chassis and body modification, auto transporter trucks may have various weight capacity and carry one to five (most often - two-three) passenger cars simultaneously (however, it should be mentioned that the total number of transported cars significantly depends on their length and body type - sedan, hatchback, SUV, microbus and so on). Additionally, the trucks of this type are often used as a part of road-trains with appropriate specific trailers, which allows effectively increasing the number of transported vehicles.

On the other hand, auto transporters intended for transportation of only one car are often used as tow trucks.

The auto transporter body may have one or two (situated one above another) cargo platforms and be either open-body (which happen most often) or closed-body tilt one. Especially installed fixtures provide for firm attachment of transported vehicles on the cargo platform.

Specific constructive features allow loading without using additional equipment - access ramps (swing-type or extension-type guide strips for mounting) and partially or fully lowered upper platform. Some modifications of auto transporters are also equipped with additional loading equipment - for example, a truck mounted crane.
